Lunar New Year, which starts in China, is the same festival as Chinese New Year, Spring Festival. These are different names used at different times or occasions.
In China, the first day of the first lunar month is defined as the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival(春节), on some ocasions called Chinese New Year for foreigners ease of understanding.
In ancient China, lunar new year was called the beginning of the year(岁首)、New Year's Day(元旦), Chinese people often called it Year(年), and in 1914, it was renamed the Spring Festival by the government and has been in use ever since.
